The backyard is the main setting of the series. It is a large expanse located near each of the major characters' houses. It is where the kids introduce their imaginary scenarios at the beginning of every episode before it transforms into the appropriate setting to fit the theme, and it returns to normal at the end of the episode as the kids sign off before rushing to one of the homes for a snack. LooksMost of the backyard is covered with grass. Several trees, shrubs, a road, a sidewalk (in Season 2-4) and blue and yellow houses (house on the right side green in Season 1) are visible behind it. A picnic table, a blue swimming pool (which is not used), a yellow slide, and a sandbox can be seen in the yard. In the winter, the grass becomes a paler shade of green and the trees lose their leaves. In the animated pilot, a soccer ball and a red bicycle are placed by the sandbox. In Pirate Treasure, 2 driveways are seen near Uniqua's House and Tyrone's House and are not shown in any other episode after that. A red house is also seen in the backyard sequence of Secret Mission. Pablo's House is on the left side, followed by Tyrone's and Uniqua's. Tasha's House is closed off from the backyard next to Pablo's, while Austin's House is also closed off but can be accessed through a door in the wooden fence. The backyard's appearance was significantly different in "Me and My Friends", the unaired live-action pilot. A yellow swing set, a red shack, and a blue fence could be seen in this version of the yard. The slide, which remains in the current version, was colored orange rather than yellow. AppearancesThe backyard appears in every episode of The Backyardigans. It first appeared in "Me and My Friends", which was not broadcast on television. Its first appearance in an aired episode was in "Pirate Treasure", and its final appearance was in "The Tale of the Not-So-Nice Dragon". Gallery |
